Join U.S. artist Amity Libby to create your own garden rose with stem and foliage, inspired by the ‘Tess of the D'Urbervilles’ rose by David Austin, using German crepe paper. You will learn to craft foliage, inner petals, intermediate petals, outer petals, and complete the flower.
Estimated Duration: Six hours.
Each participant will create their own paper sculpture and take home a beautiful flower to display.
Skills taught: Cutting petals, shaping petals, placing petals, cutting and shaping foliage, botanical vocabulary, building the flower with foliage, and finishing the flower for display.

Giant Realistic Paper Garden Rose - 1 day

Join Amity Libby as she demonstrates each step in creating a 50 cm paper garden rose inspired by the ‘Tess of the D'Urbervilles’ rose by David Austin, which will be mounted on a stem with leaves.
You will work with other participants to create a large-scale floral sculpture and acquire the skills to make your own.
Estimated Duration: Nine hours for step-by-step demonstration; a permanent example will be created as a group; individual pieces will be started if time allows.
Skills taught: Cutting petals, shaping petals, laminating and shaping petals, placing petals, botanical vocabulary, building the flower with foliage, and completing the flower to mount on the stem.

DAVID AUSTIN'S ‘TESS OF THE D'URBERVILLES’ ROSE (LIFE-SIZE AND GIANT)**
In these workshops, you will learn to create a paper garden rose with botanical realism in both life-size and giant sizes.
Inspired by the ‘Tess of the D'Urbervilles’ rose by David Austin, you will acquire skills to cut, shape, and assemble fine crepe paper with botanical accuracy.
The final result will be a 3D paper rose with foliage, built on a wire stem. After participating in these workshops, you will be able to replicate this process independently
**Participation Conditions:**
- Classes are taught in English and Spanish (Amity speaks both languages), and the Oficina da Flor team will always be present to assist both with flower making and translation into Portuguese.
- The course will only take place if a minimum number of participants is reached.
- Registration will only be considered valid after full payment or a 50% deposit of the workshop fee. The remaining 50% must be paid at least 10 days before the workshop date. If preferred, we can arrange payment in 3 installments: 40% upon registration, 30% on a date to be agreed upon (between the first and third installments), and the remaining 30% at least 10 days before the workshop.
- In case of inability to attend, the participant must notify by email to [email protected], WhatsApp +351 919023825, or social media @oficinadaflorforminhas at least 10 days in advance.
Oficina da Flor allows cancellation up to 10 days before the workshop, refunding or crediting the full amount paid.
- For cancellations made between 9 days and the course date, the deposit (50% of the registration fee) will be retained to cover administrative expenses and other losses resulting from late cancellation.
- In exceptional cases, such as sudden illness, accident, or death of a close family member (parents, grandparents, siblings, or children), duly proven (e.g., with a medical certificate or presentation of a funeral attendance declaration...), the deposit may be converted into credit for use in future in-person or online workshops or to purchase materials from our physical or online store www.oficinadaflor.com.
- Failure to attend on the scheduled date and time will be considered a withdrawal, and the full payment will be forfeited.
- If the atelier or the instructor cancels or postpones the course or if the minimum number of registrations is not reached, participants will be notified as early as possible. The amount paid will be converted into credit for another workshop or fully refunded.
- Oficina da Flor does not assume responsibility for additional participant expenses such as transportation, lunch, or accommodation. As our studio is located near Lisbon Airport, several hotels are available:

Our workshops include a morning and afternoon coffee break.
Lunch is not included and will be held at a nearby restaurant with a set and varied menu, including a starter, main course, drink, dessert, and coffee for €12.00 (price as of August 2024).
This extra fee will be paid directly to the restaurant by each participant. However, you are welcome to bring lunch from home if preferred.

- All written materials are copyrighted by the respective artist and may not be shared or redistributed in any form without their express written permission. The skills/flower model taught in the workshop cannot be taught in any course, nor modified for any classroom use. This includes online sharing of instruction. Please share results of techniques, final styling, etc. Please credit the artist when posting on social media. As an original design created by artist Amity Libby, the flowers made in the future cannot be sold as an original design without proper credit, for example, ‘Design inspired by the flower created by artist Amity Libby from the Flower and Jane atelier.’
- To attend the workshop, students only need to bring a good attitude and a willingness to learn. All materials needed for flower-making will be provided during the class.
